Grain Fed

These animals were raised on a grain-based diet. Grain feeding produces a consistent flavor and texture that's familiar and reliable — the kind of beef, pork, or chicken most families grew up cooking with.

100% Grass Fed

These animals ate grass their entire lives — no grain, ever. Grass fed beef tends to be leaner with a slightly different flavor profile than grain fed. If you've had it before and liked it, you know. If you haven't, it's worth trying.

Research consistently shows that 100% grass fed beef contains significantly more omega-3 fatty acids than grain-fed beef, along with higher levels of vitamins A and E and more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). It also tends to be lower in total fat and has a more favorable ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids — something nutritionists generally consider a good thing.

Pasture Raised

These animals had real access to the outdoors and open pasture. Pasture raised doesn't necessarily mean grass fed — some are grain finished — but it does mean they lived the way animals are meant to live, with space to move and fresh air.

Research shows that pasture-raised meat tends to be higher in omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin A, and lower in total fat than meat from conventionally raised animals. The more time an animal spends foraging on pasture, the more those benefits show up in the meat.
